Christian Science Reading Room
The approximately 850 square foot
Reading Room project is a simple wood framed structure, with smooth
white painted exterior plaster walls, generous glazing and skylights.
In the preservation and utilisation of existing elements such
as the canopy the project makes a clear connection to the existing
complex while at the same time maintaining a distinctive character
of its own. This quality is harmonious with the architecture of
the existing complex, designed in 1954 by noted Chicago architect
Charles Draper Faulkner. The Reading Room embodies a beacon like
presence on this very significant city corner. Its position will
complete the existing courtyard and anchor a vibrant and enlightening
experience.
